Hello,
Making sure I am ordering the correct strainer basket for my in ground pool. The number on the top of my basket is 38024. However, the dimensions are just very slightly different? 1/4" , or less? I'm thinking the 355318 is indeed what I need?

It's a Pac Fab Nautilus NS 72 filter system on the pool.

If what you have is a PacFab Challenger pump then that strainer basket is the correct replacement.

does the handle have to be on the basket in order for the basket not to come to the top

Hi, Peter. The handle does not have to be attached in order to allow it to float to the top. The amount of debris in the basket will determine that. The handle just is there for convenience.

I purchased home back in February. While getting the pool ready for spring, I removed the old strainer basket to clean it prior to back washing the pool. This old strainers hand simply crumbled apart. This replacement strainer was exactly the same as one in my unit so it was a perfect fit.
