Motor Mounting Plate
I have a pin hole / water leak in the motor mounting plate between the strainer housing and the pump motor. Could this be a result of more extensive damage in the strainer housing as I did not think there was any water pressure in the mounting plate.

Yes it is possible, there should be a very small gasket on the shaft of the motor behind the motor mounting plate. It is called a water slinger & will do just that if there is water coming out the back of the unit. It throws the water away from the motor when running to prevent water from reaching the motor. So, you could easily have an issue with just the shaft seal or the seal plate. See the exploded diagram picture we added to see all the internal parts of the strainer housing.
Does this replace the hayward sp1600f? I need to replace the mounting plate but it looks a bit different than this one.

This is not the replacement for the SP1600F,. You will need to purchase a drive train upgrade kit.

does the motor mounting plate have a gasket? I have a leak and seems to be coming from under the mounting plate.

Hi, Anthony. There is no gasket, the Pump Shaft seal or Housing Gasket may need to be replaced.
