Hello Morton - Depending on you geographical location, this may be a normal operating procedure. Please see page 55 of the Aquacal Manual to see if this is the situation you are in. If not, please contact Aquacal at 727-823-5642 for further assistance.

Hello, I have an Aquacal Heat pump model 115ahdsbtb with a code of "OTA". This code came up shortly after turning on the spa. It has disabled the heat pump. There are no other indications of any problem and the water did not even heat up. I suspect it is a faulty temperature sensor. If this is the case, which temp sensor would I replace? Is it the one in the housing of the heat pump on the 2" inlet PVC pipe? Can I test this first by cutting one of the wires or tying the 2 wires together?

Yes, that would be the correct replacement part for the temperature sensor, but I do not have the error codes for that. I recommend you give AquaCal a call at 727-823-5642 so they can tell you what that error code means.

My Aquacal pool heater works but the actual water temp is incorrect, read 99 when the water temp is more like 75. I can get it to turn io by setting it to "spa" and uping the set temp to above the 99 degrees. Is this a sensor problem, control problem of something else?

My Tropical Heat Pump was displaying the water temperature at 104 even though the water was at 70. As a result the Heat Pump considered the water at max temperature so it would fail to engage. The instructions provided with the part stated to look for the stamp "WS" on the circuit board and follow the wires to the sensor. Once removing the from cover and opening the circuit board housing this step was very easy. The sensor was located in a plastic housing that was threaded into the intake side of the heat pump. I removed the housing and cut the wire flush then drilled out the old sensor, since it was sealed in with epoxy. I placed the new sensor inside and resealed with Marine Epoxy. After letting it cure for 90 minutes, I installed the new sensor back into the intake, plugged the wires into the "WS" location on the circuit board, and buttoned the entire system up. The sensor correctly reads the temperature of the water and engages to heat the water appropriately. The entire repair took about 2 hours to include the 90 minutes to let the epoxy cure.

Using the directions given, the sensor was easy to locate. Replacing it was more of a challenge since the old one was inside a plastic housing sealed with epoxy. Once installed, I have been able to use my hot tub again.
