What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Hello Tony - Your model number did not bring up a match. The USQ1152 would be the correct motor for the P2RA5F-182L.

1) Turn breaker off and remove old motor from pump housing.
2) I had excessive wear on my diffuser and decided to change it out since I was changing the motor.
3) replace all O- rings and shaft seals.
4) Install new motor and ensure all nuts/screws are tightened to manufactures specifications.
5) Ensure wiring is correct, for voltage as old motor- mine was 220 volts so I wired it accordingly.
6) once everything is installed, turn breaker on and ensure there are no leaks.

1. Shut down Electricity to the motor.
2. Disconnect the 3 electrical wires from the back of the motor.
3. Remove the (8), 9/16 bolts connecting motor unit & the wet unit, remove seal.
5. Separate the motor unit & impeller by carefully inserting a screwdrivers around the edge of the seal plate. slow and carefully wiggle back the motor unit.
6. remove the (2) diffuser screws.
7. If you have an impeller lock screw. Remove it by turning it clockwise. You can hold the impeller with the other hand to remove the screw. I had to bang the screw with a screwdriver and hammer, to loosen the screw. Some motor do not use this lock screw.
8. Separate the impeller by rotating it counterclockwise. Hold the screw on the back of the motor, to stop the free spinning of the shaft. Insert flat blade screwdriver into the outer edge of the impeller and strike the screwdriver close to the impeller. That should loosen the impeller so you can twist off.
9. Remove the seal from the impeller by twisting it off with pliers.
10. Install the new seal on the impeller. Use seallube or dish soap and water. . Do not use oil, grease, teflon or silicone.
11. Remove the (4) 9/16 bolt that attaches the motor to the seal plate and separate.
12. Remove the seal from the center of the seal plate. From the side that was not connected to the motor softly tap it with a screwdriver and hammer.
13. Wash the seal plate, impeller and diffuser with dish soap and water.
14. Reinstall the new seal in the center of the seal plate, use sealube or soap and water. Use the back of a screwdriver to make it evenly flat on the seal plate.
15. Reinstall the seal plate to the new motor with the (4) screws.
16. Reinstall the Impeller to the seal plate by turning it clockwise. Hold the screw on the back of the motor to stop the free spinning of the shaft and hand tighten only.
17. Replace lock screw, if the motor has a center hold on the shaft.
18. Reinstall the diffuser with the (2) screws.
19. Reinstall the new O’ring with seallube to hold it in place on the seal plate
20. Make sure you have the (2) O’rings on the diffuser.
21. Reinstall the new power unit by sliding left to right into the wet unit.
22. Reinstall the (8) bolts.
23. Reconnect the electrical wires.
25. Remove the basket cover from the pump and add 2 gallon or more water into to pump.

Very easy procedure just many steps as you don’t want to rush through it. Make sure you don’t lose any of the washers or nuts and bolts. The new motor uses your existing hardware. Great product and great company with fast shipping. Will buy my products from them in the future.

After confirming the correct replacement frame and horsepower requirements with INYO Pool Products, the correct motor arrived quickly. In my case, it was a simple break-down of the components (after deenergizing the circuit at the breaker panel); removing the motor, impeller, and diffuser from the pump housing using basic hand tools. I was careful to keep track of all fasteners and where they would reattach. It was simply a matter of attaching the new motor to the existing frame and reattaching the impeller and diffuser in the reverse order. From the external electrical disconnect box I replaced the water-tite flex conduit and connected power to the new motor, following the enclosed diagram. Once all connections were made and confirmed that Allen fasteners were tightened on the pump, I reset the breaker and turned the pump on using the external disconnect switch. The pump is now working better than ever.

I wouldn't call myself a pool pump expert, but with the instructional video I felt I could replace my pool pump. It was as easy as the video implies. In about 40 minutes I had the switch made. Compared to what my local pool shop wanted to replace the motor, I saved about $200.00 by doing it myself. Additionally, it arrived on my front porch about three days after I ordered it. Thanks!!!

(4 out of 5 stars) No Switch
Reviewed By: ptkelley from Chattanooga, TN ()
Pros: Excellent two-speed motor
Cons: no switch
Be aware that there is no manual switch included. The Switch end plate cover is no longer available. However, all you really need is a double throw, single pole toggle switch (DTSP). AO Smith support by email can send you the wiring diagram for connecting the switch. The other option is to connect the pump to an automated controller that can handle a two-speed pump. The Intermatic controllers are great for this and relatively inexpensive if controlling the two-speed pump is all you need.

Reviewed By: PoJo from Clarence, NY ()
Pros: Awesome fit - excellent replacement
Cons: none
Tip to get the impeller off the old pump moter: use a 7/16" open ended wrench - it slides in near the capacitor on the electrical side... rotate the impeller until the wrench slides into place at the end of the shaft and then one person holds the motor and the wrench while a 2nd person loosens the impeller off with bare hands by turning the impeller counter clock-wise.
